Mountaineering is a most sought-after outdoor activity for the adventurous and for the wild-hearted. Cliff-hanging, rappelling and trekking mountains are what usually involved in the activity and often times a mountaineer puts his life on the line for every mountain he or she conquers. Climbing tall mountain peaks is the ultimate high for these daring individuals who would not stop until they are able to able to step foot on the highest peak.

Mountain equipment and tools are one, if not the most important accessories that any mountaineer must own. From rain gear to shoes or boots, to tents, bags, climbing gear, camping materials and tools, mountain items are usually higher priced than other sports gears and tools. However, avid and serious mountaineers invest in the most durable types of mountain equipment. They rely heavily on brands for quality and reliability but they also are in continuous search for more affordable ones. Usually, they obtain and assess the feedbacks from other mountaineers who have tried the products before they actually buy them. Especially for climbing gears, equipment should be highly durable and safe to use.

And most literally, a mountaineer’s equipment is the lifeline of every mountaineer as he or she would really rely on them for security and safety every time he hangs on to them. Therefore, quality, safety and durability of a tool should never be compromised and should come first before price and aesthetic because the failure of mountain equipment may mean loss of a life or lives depending on the situation.

It’s summer once again and you have been planning for your camping trip almost for a year already. You already requested for a leave from your office same with your wife. School is out and your kids have been very excited for your camping trip. They have been talking nonstop about it.

You have already done your homework. You have chosen a good camping ground in an area beautifully surrounded by nature but still safe for your family. You also had your car checked by a professional mechanic just to make sure that it is in perfect running condition. But all of these preparations would be worth nothing if you don’t have the right camping equipment.

Naturally, having a good set of camping equipment should be the priority of any family that is planning a camping trip. Make sure that you have a tent that is big enough to accommodate everyone or if not, have a couple of tents ready for everybody. Your tent must be durable enough to withstand the elements just in case there’s strong wind or some precipitation, usually a drizzle of rain. It must also be tough enough not to be easily punctured or scratched.

Do you already have your sleeping bags ready? A set of camping equipment is not complete without comfortable sleeping bags. Make sure that they have proper insulation to keep you warm during the cold nights outdoors. Good outdoor clothing especially outdoor footwear is also vital.

And of course, don’t forget your cooking utensils including the portable stove. Buy only such tools that are designed specifically as camping equipment to make sure that they are meant to be used outdoors.

The season

Going on a family camping trip should be planned many months before hand, part of that planning is deciding what season to go in, the season that is right for your family totally depends on your family so I will list some of the good and bad points of all four seasons so that you can choose the right one for your family.

Summer:

Good:

Hot for most of the day and night so probably will not need to wrap up, very good for kids that do not like the cold or rain.

It will stay lighter for longer so you and the kids can enjoy the light for that little bit longer then in any other season.

Perfect weather if there is a pool or lake near by to go swimming in.

Bad:

The hotter weather means a high chance of getting sun burned

Most people will go camping during the summer because that is when the kids are of school so if you are looking for a quite get away you will probably be out of luck

There are more bugs out and about when the weather is hot.

Winter

Good:

Less people will be going camping because of the weather

Perfect if you children like the cold weather or snow

Bad:

Most children will not like the cold weather

Some camps close in the winter so phone ahead

Gets darker quicker

Spring-autumn:

These two seasons are in the middle for nearly everything, they are cooler then summer but hotter then winter (most of the time) and the days are longer then in the winter. Plus they are not as popular as summer so the camp grounds will not be as packed.

After you have decide when you are going to cam you should look into buy the right family tent so that you can enjoy your trip to the full.

Getting the right family tent

Picking the right tent for your family is going to make or break your camping trip so pick wisely you don’t want your kids to be complaining the whole holiday because there is not enough room inside the tent and your are all sleeping on top of each other. When buying a tent buy one that sleeps at least 2 more people then you are planning to take so if your taking 4 people along get a tent that is made to sleep 6 or more people, because when they are measuring how many people can fit inside of a tent, they measure using average sized people and with them sleeping as close as possible to each other. The extra money spent on a bigger family tent will priceless when it gives you and your kids all the extra room so they are not crammed in like sardines. A bigger tent will also come in handy for when it rains, you and your kids are going to want to stay inside if it rains hard enough and that extra space really becomes noticeable when the whole family is trying to live in a tent. A good tip for buying a tent is to get the store owner to set up your ten before you buy it so you and all the family can get in and try it out or even go as far as renting the tent for the weekend if there is somewhere in your local area that allows you to do that there is nothing that can beat getting in the tent for the weekend to see if it is the right one for you.

What equipment to take when camping

Having a good check list when planning to go camping is a good thing, so that it reduces the chance that you are going to forget something, this is my list of the essentials you can change so that it suits your families needs you might not need some stuff on the list or you may need to add some extras in. Just make sure to write it all down and check it off as you pack it, so anyway this is my list:

Cooking Equipment

Matches/lighter

Stove, barbecue kit Stove or cooker, (if you are not planning to build a fire everyday)

If you are planning on taking a cooker or stove, make sure you pack fuel if not take what you will need to build a fire

Pans, pots and cooking utensils

Plates and cutlery including cups

A tin opener (really bad if you forget this)

Bin bags

Kitchen foil (has too many uses to list)

Tent and sleeping equipment including:

A mallet

Sleeping bags

Groundsheet or blow up mattress

Pillows

First Aid

Plasters/bandages

Sun cream

Insect repellent

Antiseptic

And the rest

Personal hygiene products including soap, shampoo tooth brush etc.

Toilet paper (you really do not want to forget this)

Torches

Mobiles phone (just in case anything happens switch it off when not in use to save battery)

Duct tape (can repair a lot of things)

Spare ropes and poles for your tent

This is not by all means all that you will need everybody is different but this is a list of essentials that most people will need to survive while camping out with the family.

Tents come in many shapes and sizes so making sure that your tent is the right one for you is a very important decision and should not be taken lightly, most tents will last a good few years and you don’t want to go out and have to buy another a couple of months after you have already spent money on a camping tent. Here are my top five tips when buying a tent:

Tent size and Tent Design

Tents come is a very large number of sizes and designs so getting the right one out of the bunch is going to be hard work, but if you take a moment a really think about it you will end up with the right tent. If you want the tent to go back packing with then a small lightweight tent would be perfect for you. But if you are going on a family camping trip then you are going to want to have a family sized tent so that you can fit everyone in. If you are more into camping or maybe even mountaineering then you want a camping tent that is both strong a versatile but not too heavy so maybe a little bit heavier then a tent for back packing but still not too heavy.

The interior of the tent.

When deciding on a tent take time to have a look inside the tent so that you can see if it is the right size for you, even better see if you can find a store were the tents are set up and on display so that you can actually get inside before you buy the tent. Its not just the size of the tent that matters, you are going to want to have somewhere to store all of your belonging while you are staying inside the tent, because there is no point getting a tent with loads of floor space if you are just going to clutter it up with your belongings. Look for a tent with mesh pockets on the inside so that all your stuff can be stored both safe and dry. If you can find a tent with hooks on the inside that is a extra bonus because you will have some were to put your torch and things so that they are easy to access for that midnight toilet brake.

The material of the camping tent

Another good thing to look out for when buying a camping tent is the material of the tent is made from. You are going to want to buy a tent that is tough but you also want to a camping tent that is also waterproof. Have a feel of the material if it feels flimsy and light weight then it is properly made from cheap materials, with tents you really get what you pay for.

Spare tent parts

All ways keep a few spare parts for your tent handy, you never know when you might need them, a lost peg might not sound like much but not having a replacement can mean the difference between keeping you tent on the ground and watching it fly away on a big gust of wind. Also keep a tent repair kit handy, most kits will contain spare material l and sealant for any rips or tares that may happen during a camping trip.

Test drive you tent

My last tip is that if it is at all possible try out your camping tent before you buy it, most stores will run a hire section along side there selling department, so if at all possible try to rent for the weekend and go out camping with it, nothing can beat testing a tent in the outdoors you will find all its good points and all its bad point and really it is the only way, because there are some things that you can not experience in the shop. Also as one last quick tip after you have bought your tent check and make sure that everything is there because there is nothing worse then driving all the way to your camp site to only find out that there is a missing pole and there is nothing you can do about it.
